Lions Vision Services
A Mission of Midtown Vineyard Church
Lions Vision Services (LVS) was created by the Lions Clubs of South Carolina in 1969 and exists today to empower the under-served blind and visually impaired in South Carolina to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives. LVS offers a range of programs and services to low-income South Carolina residents who apply for need-based financial assistance with obtaining eye exams, eyeglasses, affordable eye surgeries, and vision technology. Free vision screenings are provided to promote early detection and correction of vision impairments. Each spring the organization hosts a Blind Fishing event and manages quarterly meetings of the Palmetto Vision Alliance.
“The grant from The Chapin Foundation has helped LVS provide transformative sight saving eye surgeries to individuals in Myrtle Beach who are experiencing poverty. Often these clients just need this one medical procedure to permanently transform their life and circumstances. Vision health is seldom defined as an “essential service,” yet our sight is absolutely essential to our quality of life, safety, economic security, and general health and well-being. The Chapin Foundation’s grant support is providing direct on-the-ground support to Myrtle Beach residents who cannot afford these essential healthcare services. LVS pays for the physician fee, facility fee, and anesthesia fee for the eye surgery by partnering with one of our local ophthalmologists, often at Coastal Eye Group or the Grand Dunes Surgery Center. These partners significantly discount their services for LVS clients, enabling us to leverage every $1 of the Foundation’s grant into $4 in the value of services we can provide to our clients. Together we are expanding access to eye care for all and helping every Myrtle Beach resident live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.”
