Habitat for Humanity
A mission of First Presbyterian Church
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. The vision of the organization is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Through the establishment of faith, civic and community partnerships, Habitat Horry empowers individuals and neighborhoods through shelter, transforms through education, and inspires through change.
“In 2021, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County launched the Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) arm of our programming. Through support from The Chapin Foundation and other community partners, Habitat Horry County has been able to partner with the Booker T. Washington (BTW) community to convene a coalition of resident leaders and partners to best address real concerns and improve resident lives holistically. We focus on ‘Quality of Life’ sector outcomes in the areas of health, housing, education, economic opportunity, transportation, amenities, and safety. Restored housing and sustainable activation of a community park have been areas of focus to date. In 2022, We’ve served 71 homeowners, mobilized over 70 volunteers, and invested over $50,000 into homes. We’ve replaced roofs and HVAC, built wheelchair ramps, repaired fences, weatherized doors, painted, planted, and pruned landscaping, and addressed critical vulnerabilities on home exteriors.”
